Muna Giacaman
Former Director

Muna Giacaman was born in Bethlehem Palestine then her family immigrated to the United States where she lived for 35 years. She studied at San Francisco State University in California, received a BA degree in English – Creative Writing, and an MA in English with Focus on TEFL/TESL. She taught English as a second language for 9 years at The American Language Institute, SFSU, and Laney College in Oakland. In 1994, Muna returned to Palestine with her family and began teaching English (EFL) at Birzeit University. In February 1998, she was appointment by the Dean of Arts to reorganize and develop the Palestine and Arabic Program (PAS), after which she was made director, and was instrumental in building the program into a successful international study-abroad program of high academic quality, respected and accredited by universities in many countries around the world. Muna continues to teach EFL at Birzeit University.

Mahmoud Ahmad M. Abdel-Fattah

Mahmoud Ahmad M. Abdel-Fattah, MA Applied Linguistics & Translation, Assistant Professor in Translation and TEFL, Department of Languages and Translation, Birzeit University, West Bank. Research interests include: Arabic/English Contrastive text Linguistics, Applied Translation Studies, and Arabic Modality, Arabic Sign Language.

Assumed several positions including: Head of the Department of English, Hebron University. Head, Department of Languages and Translation, BZU. Director of the Quality English Teaching/ Learning Project, sponsored by the Quality Improvement Fund, the World Bank, Department of Languages & Translation, Birzeit University, November, 2006- April, 2008. Coordinator of English Communication Courses, Head of Translation Committee, Resource Room Coordinator, Member of Faculty Council (twice), Member of University Academic Council (twice).

Tina Rafidi
Director, 2014 - 2017

Tina Jaber Rafidi is currently the PAS director and works as an English language lecturer at the Department of Languages and Translation at Birzeit University. She is a specialised consultant in English language teaching, professional and teacher training, and curriculum development. She holds a master’s degree in gender, law, and development, and a second master’s degree in education and TEFL. She is especially interested in current education reforms and teacher training for public and private schools in the region.

Tagreed Bajes Butros Abed
Former Director -2019/2021

Assistant Professor at Birzeit University (BZU) / Faculty of Arts
Assistant Professor - Department of Languages and Translation.

Holds a PhD degree in Curriculum and Instruction (TEFL) from Ain Shams University /Egypt.
BA & MA from Birzeit University in English and Education.

Published papers on different issues related to ELT and participated in many national and international workshops and conferences. The principal research interests are teaching methods and teacher training.
